In the air again...

Not in Australia yet, but heading there. Last night was the first night with no sleep for me since I can't remember. Eric and I had night watch for Charlie. The poor thing has just been suffering too long.

Apparently, the first operation has been botched up, and he is unable to pass water. This in spite of having been treated in not one but two animal hospitals, to the tune of more money than we would ever thought we'd spending for treatment of one of our cats. Still, this is the least of our concerns.

We left the house at 4:30 AM and boarded our plane for the first-leg of our trip in a state of pure exhaustion; yet, I just could not sleep on the plane, no matter how I tried. Eric fared better.

The Alaska Airline flight landed us in San Francisco six hours after take-off. An eight-hour layover awaited us and we were not going to submit ourselves to the torture; we figured we'd be better off going into town and walk about a bit to get some energy and possibly tire ourselves enough that we can actually catch some Zs during the next 17-hour flight to Sydney.

It was a good idea. The weather in San Francisco is pleasant. We spent most of our time along the seashore, being entertained by performers at Fisherman Wharf and chowing on some fine food.

We are now back at SFO airport sitting in the Priority Club Lounge waiting for the announcement to board, but not without mixed feelings. On the way to the airport we spoke to Diane who, with Gianna, was on her way to Tufts in North Grafton with Charlie, for emergency re-evaluation and most likely corrective surgery to undo the mistakes of the previous operation.

I feel awful about this situation, for Charlie, but also for the two ladies we left behind with this burden to deal with. We pray that all will get resolved in the best of manners and that my new blog-post will be much more upbeat, from the Land down under.

Thanks for listening. I leave you with a shot of Sea Lions enjoying their communal life on a platform in the San Francisco Bay. Ciao!!
