Hello Malaysia!

Our Malindo Air flight from Singapore delivered us in Kuala Lumpur with a 45 minute delay. Immigration took longer than normal, and the cab ride to our residence took about an hour. Bottom line: We arrived much later than expected, and the photo cache is slim.

Be that as it may, Kuala Lumpur is a whole different vibe than Singapore. The city is massive (think New York), with parts of it reminding us of a combination of Times Square, with a Tokyo-like twist. It is a different vibe because, for one, much fewer people speak English here, but also because the place is not as sanitized and proper. And we like that.

New York vibe

Tokyo vibe

Our place is in the center of town. We have a brand new apartment on the 28th floor of a brand new building, and the vistas are spectacular. The apartment is beautiful and ample. We have free access to all the amenities, like the gym, and the infinity pool on the 38th floor, and let me tell you, it is simply wonderful.

Isn't this amazing?

As for the city, the iconic postcard will undoubtedly feature the Petronas Twin Towers, until recently the tallest buildings in the world, at over half a kilometer in height, now surpassed by the Burj Kalifa tower in Dubai.

Both towers

But K.L. did not stay still. While the Petronas Towers are still the tallest twin structures world-wide, they are now actually only the third tallest building in Malaysia. Two other towers, of which I don't recall the name at the moment are currently the second and third tallest worldwide.

From our place we have a clear view of all of them, and the entire very impressive skyline.

This is now the second tallest building in the world. Tallest in Malaysia.

And this is the third tallest worldwide

Another view from our building. The TV tower is also very iconic.

Diane and I managed to get in quite a bit of walking tonight, about 4 miles. We wanted to see the Petronas up close so we headed there, and had dinner nearby. The food here is quite spicy and hot, and perhaps not for everyone, but it is right up my alley, and we look forward to trying all sorts of dishes during our stay.

The Petronas reflected onto another building.

Yes, I know. I'm obsessed with these buildings.

Truly, having been in-country only a few hours, we have little to add, both in activities, photos, and knowledge of the place, but as usual, we'll fill you in with many more details about this exciting country as our journey progresses. For now, we'll just have to settle with a Goodnight Y'all. We've only just begun.
