The Lanin national park is a huge park that covers several thousand acres. On the way to Junin, we had driven through some of its exceptional scenery, so today we wanted to visit the northern part of it. It was a great day, very relaxing, perfect weather (for a change), and lots of unpaved roads.
Most of the time we coasted along Lake Huechulafquen, the largest lake in Northern Patagonia. It straddles along the Chile-Argentina border. The Lanin volcano, which gave its name to the park is a sight to behold.
Along the route several campgrounds provided food and refreshments for the visitor, as well as amazing photo opportunities. Unfortunately, when we got back and I uploaded my daily pictures, every photo was completely washed-out. This is because somehow the settings on the camera had been changed without my realizing it. Most pictures I take are doing our most active hours, and those who know about photography know well that when the sun is high in the sky, photos will be too exposed under normal circumstances. Add an extremely wrong camera setting and you get something that looks like x-rays in reverse. Luckily, windows provides some post-photo adjustment, and I was able to recover most, albeit with much less quality than had they been shot with the proper settings.
Upon returning to Junin, we had money waiting at the Western Union office, which made for a good evening, and we splurged by eating at the best restaurant in town. I keep eating pasta dishes here. While not as good as in Italy, pasta in Argentinian restaurants is not bad at all. So far I have enjoyed every pasta dish served me. Diane is trying to eat healthy and is doing a lot of salads, enjoying them all. Fruit here is also absolutely delectable. All fresh and in-season.
Tomorrow we are planning a drive to another national park, one much smaller but that looks equally inviting. I’ll make sure to check the settings on the camera. Buenas Noches, amigos y amigas.
